The idea (besides having a read only system) is not to wear out the flash media. As the backup is only run at shutdown, you should not forget to run it manually after eg. you've scanned your collection. Otherwise the scan will be lost if the machine crashes. IDE flash adapters should be fine (it's what I'm using myself). I always said that SlimCD is _not_ an out of the box slimserver solution, but needs some adjustment to make it work properly.
