I got it fixed - think that lame wasn't installed or not installed correctly. My Windows Media decoder is now set to wmamplayer/lame.sh (it was set to wmamplayer/flac.sh). Chasing this down also highlighted the fact that my media scans were not completing successfully. I did some digging and found 'this post' (https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?110705-serach-not-working&p=944154&viewfull=1#post944154). Deleting my library.db and letting it recreate it fixed my scanning problem. Thanks again for your great work!
