Yes but the problem is that current track info is not available all the
time for non national stations and when it is not available an error is
returned rather than "success but no data".
Because of this uneveneness of availability and hard to decide when is
an error a real error - in the past this sort of behaviour generated
more questions and required explanations - I decided to put current tack
only on those stations which have current data "all" of the time.

No.
Just need to add the "track=on" param (shown in red) to the 4(?) live
menu.opml URL entries. Do not copy and paste whole URL as each entry is
different.
Code:
--------------------
<outline text="BBC Cumbria" type="audio"
icon="http://radio-service-information.api.bbci.co.uk/logos/bbc_radio_cumbria/128x128.png"
URL="iplayer://live?hls=http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_cumbria.m3u8&dash=http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/dash/uk/dash_full/ak/bbc_radio_cumbria.mpd&icon=http://radio-service-information.api.bbci.co.uk/logos/bbc_radio_cumbria/128x128.png&onair=bbc_radio_cumbria&track=on&title=BBC
Cumbria&desc=BBC Radio Cumbria, the home of local news, sport, weather and
travel news. Great stories and great conversation. Be part of it - be proud of
it" />
--------------------
No need to restart LMS. All UIs on all Players & web interfaces must not
be in a BBCiPlayer menu and then updated menu.opml will be read when
user goes from Radio Menu into BBCiPlayer menu.
