You could try changing owner and group of lame to davidgri. I've checked my system (for which AlienBBC works well) and found that both mplayer and lame have myself as owner and group.
I'm the person most responsible for the instructions, but as my Mac is a PowerBook, there are things about the Intel Macs that I don't know.
