The solution when using RealPlayer seems to be to use the HTTP (port 80) rather than RTSP to transfer the streams and mplayer doesn't support this option. There may be some sort of confusion within the router since Apple Quicktime uses RTSP on port 554 but Apple's version of RTSP is different to Real's version.
