Thanks Paul and Jim for further advice. Still thinking my way through, as for me this counts as a potentially big investment, so I want to consider as many alternatives as poss.
So, I do have an M! MacBook Air (2020). I imagine using that would eliminate the need for the camera adapter for the iPad. I have a spare USB3USB adaptor I could use on one of the laptop's Thunderbolt/USB4 jacks. Presumably a Dragonfly DAC would work connected to that? I do have iPeng working on the laptopit's an M1 version, and most iOS/iPadOS apps work on itso that side of it is covered.
