Your problem is in basic network setup and you will probably get better info from your NAS manual.
Devices need an IP address to communicate - the IP address is either assigned statically or dynamically. DHCP is the mechanism which assigns IP addresses dynamically to devices. Normally the router is the DHCP server and devices has a DHCP client on the link to the router. DNS is the mechanism for converting names such as forums.slimdevices.com to 207.7.156.4. A device needs to know the address of a DNS server in order to be able to converting a name to an IP address so that a packet may be sent. The gateway IP address is the address of the device which routes packets to the internet. Normally the DHCP server in addition to assigning the IP address for a device, it will also supply the DNS server address and the gateway address. It looks like your NAS has been set up as a static IP address and not to use DHCP. As a result, the DNS server and gateway addresses are not setup - and consequently your NAS (i.e. Slimserver) cannot make outgoing connections. Recommendation: Configure your NAS to use the DHCP server on the link to the router/LAN. -- bpa ------------------------------------------------------------------------ bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=37546 _______________________________________________ plugins mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
