I have Slimserver 6.5.x working with AlienBBC with mplayer working on 2 NAS - 1 FSG3 (266MHz ARM 64MbRam no FPU) and Kurobox (266Mhz PPC with FPU with 128Mb RAM) - so I am pretty sure your Linkstation will work because it is very similar to a Kurobox.
I think you can ignore the conf messages as they usually only specify settings.
