Erland,

Well, to put it in another way: most of the times I am just interested
in simply playing random songs within a certain genre (I have created
about 50 in my tags). In the standard Slimserver setup this is done in
just a few button clicks: Browse->Genre->"Latin" (for example)->Play.

For this, I am not in the specific need of Dynamic Playlists or
whatsoever. However, this straight forward way only works fine as long
as the total number of songs in the genre is somewhat limited, due to
the fact Slimserver, as programmed until now, will generate the full
playlist in advance.

The Dynamic Playlist / SQL Playlist plugin works smarter/quicker, i.e.
it generates the playlist "on the run". However, working with Dynamic
Playlist in combination with Custom Browse simply means more hassle:
Browse->Genre->"Latin"->Play+hold->Random.

The above made me wonder why the standard Slimserver setup could not be
programmed such that it always generates playlists "on the run", i.e.
without the specific need to install full featured plug-ins. (Don't get
me wrong: I admire your plugin work and I am a satisfied user of many of
them)

Additionally, I found something strange in the way my Play+hold Random
selection works. Currently I have Dynamic Playlists and SQLPlaylists
installed and enabled the four pre-programmed Random Playlists (Random
Albums, Random Artists, Random Songs, Random Years). When I press
Play+hold in a certain genre and scroll to Random, I cannot select
anything more. When I press the right arrow it will start playing a
random playlist of 20 selected songs in the genre (after 20 songs it
stops). Alternatively, when I press the Play button, it will start a
random playlist of all the songs in the genre (i.e. just the way the
standard Slimserver does it).

Does this sound familiar to you?
