I started getting this same problem (i.e. as per the symptoms described in the first post) when I installed the free version of ZoneAlarm a month or so ago on my Vista PC. I had previously been using the default Windows firewall, but had been keen to change it as I didn't like the way in which it didn't let you know about outgoing connections.
Anyway, I've just installed "ZoneAlarm Pro 7.1.254.000 (Beta Version for Windows Vista 32-bit only)" from 'this page' (http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/free/beta/zavistabeta.html). AlienBBC now works ok!
