I wish I knew what I was doing wrong. I reinstalled the wavinput - downloaded and extracted into SC>server>plugins and then replaced the other download, edited the xml file, this time the right way with wordpad, saved it and then checked to see if stereo mix in control panel was checked. Then I relaunched SC and went settings>plugins and no wavinput in the list.
