>The latter portion of what you've described sounds pretty much like what >I'm hoping to achieve. I've just begun retagging the Artist fields to >reflect each artist who performs on an individual track. I don't, >however, want albums to wind up under Compilations (because they're >not), nor do I want to see the albums listed under Various Artists. > Compilation albums are the same as "Various Artist" albums - i.e. albums that are determined to be compilations are listed under Various Artists.
>So, it seems that the real key here is proper use of the albumartist >tag. > Yes. Thus, if I have an album by XXX, on which YYY also performs on >several songs, I'd make sure that the albumartist tag contains only >XXX, while the artist tags for the relevant tracks would read XXX;YYY. >If I tag that way, given what you've said, it sounds like that when I >browse by Artist, the entire album would show up under XXX, while >(simultaneously) the selected tracks on which YYY performed would >appear under YYY. > Yes. >A question, though. How do I determine whether SC >is reading the albumartist tag. Put differently, how do I configure SC >to read the albumartist tag? Many thanks. You don't need to do anything special to get SC to read proper Album Artist tags. That is, for music formats that define album artist tags properly, SC will always read the tag content. mp3 (id3) tags are confusing though, in that there is no standard support for Album Artist. You have two choices: 1. Use a custom tag (TXXX ALBUMARTIST). Several apps/taggers support this, including SqueezeCenter scanner (by default, no extra configuration needed), FooBar, and Mp3Tag. 2. Mis-use the Band tag, and configure the SC scanner to read Band but store it as Album Artist. Several apps/taggers use this as a frig, which I detest. I always suggest (1), using Mp3Tag to set the content. Phil _______________________________________________ plugins mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
