Gordon, I just installed RC6 on my SC that runs on a virtual machine in a poweredge (now, that's a guzzler.)
All went extremely well, except 1 thing: I had previously messed-up some plugins prefs files trying to learn how to write a plugin myself. I had victimized the prefs file for srvPowerControl, and after installing RC6 I still couldn't see the new preferences page. After some time I finally had the idea to grep the /var/lib/squeezecenter/cache/templates directory on the xubuntu machine, and found the culprit. I nuked the cache, and there was the correct prefs page, at last. Perhaps you want to add a note about this, in case ? I admit I had been seriously fiddling with the install before reaching this state, casual users won't. Congrats on that new page and the Help page. It's great and I'll try to contribute a translation. As I said, now my main server is virtual and runs 24/7. My main system is an SB3 and a Rotel amp that has IR input. So I've been using IR Blaster for a while. When in standby, this amp draws virtually no electricity; it reads 0W on my meter. So I am using standby on the amp, through IR Blaster, rather than doing a complete power off. This way I can also use wake-up alarms on the SB3, that makes for a very loud alarm clock. My use-case has changed much. The only powersaving feature I can seek is powering down the amp. Since the plugin checks for player idleness, I wanted the plugin to power off the player, hence powering off the amp, and do nothing else (since the server is virtual and the real server won't sleep.) I found out doing this is not obvious, although very easy. This is what I did: - uncheck all options. Everything. - check "Power-off players when shutting down" - check "Monitor idle players", and selected the "Shutdown server" action - In "Shutdown Command (include full pathand cmd line args):" I entered: "/bin/true". Now, I have srvPowerControl shutdown my player when inactive for some time, which powers-off the amp thanks to IR Blaster. The server and SC stay up, as expected. Yet another use case... sorry. (and thanks one more time for such a great plugin.) -- epoch1970 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ epoch1970's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16711 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=48521 _______________________________________________ plugins mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
