No, sometimes it is as the progressbar just freezes.

And now a third crash of iPeng occurred, under conditions like the
previous two crashes. After the crash I restarted iPeng. The scan
started at 17.54, and now at 18:10 only slightly less than one quarter
of the progressbar has been filled (showing albums only up to and
including Em...).

No, only a scan for new or changed music. But I had added 18 new
albums.

OK, you are right. Sorry for the confusion. I did not have my iPod at
hand when I replied and I remembered that the Artist list had been read
and displayed in full and also my New music (but no album art for the
new music).

Yes, connection is definitely established (I verified this now with the
iPod at hand).
