You'll need to use a version of SS compiled for ALSA.

Run squeezeslave -L to get a list of available devices, you'll need to
use the dmix device which is 12 in my list.

# squeezeslave -L
Output devices:
* 0: HDA Intel: ALC883 Analog (hw:0,0)
1: HDA Intel: ALC883 Digital (hw:0,1)
2: HDA Intel: ALC883 Analog (hw:0,2)
3: front
4: surround40
5: surround41
6: surround50
7: surround51
8: surround71
9: iec958
10: spdif
11: default
12: dmix

Then start squeezeslave using output device 12.

squeezeslave -o12 

Help is available with the -h command line option.

You'll need to configure your other audio applications to use dmix as
well to be able to share the sound card.
