mplayer is working OK - the messages are because you have no sound card setup that suits mplayer.
So the problem is mplayer.sh. There was a change to mplayer.sh in 2.5 so it looks like it must be causing the problem which is odd because the 2.5 fix was to solve a specific Ubuntu playing problem.
