Bluegaspode - It looks like we're coming to the same conclusion over the denon issue! I must have been writing my post as you were posting yours. The problem is indeed that the LIRC file is wrong. However, my rudimentary LIRC implementation wouldn't be able to cope even if it were right as I have ignored a lot of the lesser used parameters which would be needed to describe this protocol fully. The next version does have a (near) complete implementation of LIRC though.
You are correct that my DENON protocol is different to what the RC-174 uses and is very close to NEC. I only named it DENON as I have a Denon hi-fi that uses it.
