The Controller (within LUA) is singlethreaded and has a simple eventqueue. If you do a long-running task (like repeatedly sending events) in a LUA-method, subsequent events only get queued but will never trigger. In the thread about the Radio architecture (the developers or beta forum) in the beginning there was some discussion about multithreading in LUA.
