I understand that outside the Squeezebox environment it has been demonstrated that by DSP a digital file can be made to sound like vinyl. As I understand it this was done by .VST file which can't be directly used by SBS. Lots of people still like the sound of records more than cds or digital files so I suspect it would be quite popular. From my lofty vantage point of ignorance I would have thought it would be fairly easy to implement for someone clever, and it may be that it's largely a matter of transcoding something which has been done before. This point has cropped up a number of times on the audiophile forum, but I suspect it would be of much wider interest.
