To achieve #2, above, try the following settings:

A). In the "System Idle Monitor" settings section, make sure that both
"Monitor the system for idle conditions?" and "Monitor Idle Squeezebox
Players?" are checked. It sounds from you description that you may
want your server to stay awake between 4am and 8pm. If so, then select
"Do nothing, i.e. stay awake!" as the System Idle Monitor - Action to
take after idle time.

B). Under the "End of Day" settings, make sure that "Perform end-of-day
action" is checked, "Allowed system idle time" is set to 20, "End-of-day
start & end times" are set to 8:00 pm and 4:00 am, and the "Action to
take after idle time" is set to "Shutdown to www.mysqueezebox.com".

That ought to do it.

The symptom you describe sounds like you may have neglected to check
the "Monitor Idle Squeezebox Players" in the System Idle Monitor
section.

The only other situation I can think of where SrvrPowerCtrl ignores
actively playing players is when the End of Day "Allowed system idle
time" set to 0. When the EOD idle time is zero, SrvrPowerCtrl uses
reduced idle checking: just blocks, scanning and player firmware
updating. I.e., a zero value here means you really, really want the
EOD action to happen, and happen now.

Obviously, all these settings interact and it's entirely possible that
you've uncovered a logic bug. Please let me know what you observe.
