This doesn't really concern the iPlayer plugins as it is a BBC issue but
I thought I would post this in case people aren't aware of the issue.
(Forgive me for not having trawled through the previous posts).

The normal bitrate for Radio 3 Listen Again increased from 192 kbps to
320 kbps a few weeks ago (at least for the aac streams which I use).
This is a great development.

BUT

There are seemingly random Radio 3 LA programmes that are encoded as 56
kbps HE-AAC. The number of these varies from day to day. Sometimes it is
the odd one but it is usually 2 or 3.

Yesterday (Thursday 3rd Nov) was particularly bad with the following
being 56 kbps HE-AAC:

06:30 Breakfast: Thursday - Sara Mohr-Pietsch
09:00 Essential Classics: Thursday - Rob Cowan
12:00 Composer of the Week: Alessandro Scarlatti (1660-1725): Episode 4
16:30 In Tune: Neville Marriner, Simon Keenlyside, Marcelo Bratke
18:30 Composer of the Week: Alessandro Scarlatti (1660-1725): Episode 4
19:30 Radio 3 Live in Concert: Philharmonia Orchestra - Debussy, Bartok
22:00 Night Waves: George Soros

I am forwarding the details, on a daily basis, to a contact at the BBC
but this has been going on for many weeks but there is, as yet, no
apparent sign that the engineers are tackling the issue.
