Because it's them who are demanding an end-to-end encryption that may
not be made public which is obviously something you can't do with an
open-source software player.

Rhapsody will then tell you it's not their fault but that it's the
record companies asking this from them which is at least half ways
true. The record companies ask for a protection model which is then
provided by the service and approved for the contract; once it's
through you probably don't want to change it.

A simple hardware would of course qualify for this but has other
challenges. The receiver was a configuration and maintenance nightmare
due to it's remote configuration, I fully understand that Logitech
wants something with a user interface built into it.
