I think keeping synchronised copies of critical data is underrated. Much better than RAID and unlike "backup" does not need to be "restored" as the data is instantly available and uncompressed.
I use a little utility called "ViceVersa" to synchronise my music, documents and photo folders between a hard drive in my PC and my NAS. It uses task scheduler to do this silently in the background every hour while my PC is switched on. It keeps archived copies of any files I change or delete too, which I have set up to go back 3 months. That way I can quickly revert back to an earlier version of a file if I screw up or it becomes corrupted. If my NAS were to fail I could install LMS on my PC and point it to the synchronised folder followed by a quick scan. I would be up and running again in about 15 minutes if necessary. I also use it to run an occasional straight mirror to a USB hard drive to keep off site (at my work place). ------------------------------------------------------------------------ TheLastMan's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16021 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96124 _______________________________________________ plugins mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
