Sorry, I've not got the same router as you but I have recently created a
VPN on my ASUS router and shut down my previous port forwarding. Do you
have a static IP address from your ISP provider? You'll need that or a
DDNS provider to provide you with a static address - it then it should
be fairly straightforward. On my ithingy I then  set up a PPTP VPN and
the DDNS address (or static IP) is the server name. Initialising the VPN
simply prompts for the password you set on your router and that's it -
once entered you then connect as if you were at home.
