OK, I've investigated a bit more here. I'd definitely call it a bug in iOS 7. The problem seems to be that changing a button in a navigation item (in this case: adding the "Now Playing" button) holds up the whole transition to the next page for a second or so. Will add a workaround for iOS 7... will probably uglify the transitions a bit but should speed things up.
