Lots of free time. It is finite and its availability is not predictable as others always want yours. A new version of a plugin not only needs time to develop and test but the bulk is in providing support especially from impatient users. Support for a popular plugin is more difficult as there are many users with many version of LMS and many different platforms - which mean many questions. While it may seem unconnected - once the Plugin is "updated" there will be questions asked about the Applet. While you may be happy with HLS there are a few niggles that need to be sorted which could muddy a plugin update. 1. Why are there some audio quality issues on OSX 2. Why does PlayHLS not work on one 7.9 installations. 3. Is there a more general 7.9 transcoding issue ? The current plugin and applet works for most people - there is no need to change. The usual problem is the need to change the plugin settings to allow transcoding and try all audio formats.
