The issue of compatibility libraries usually used to come up when
someone reused an old laptop/desktop as a LMS server and would do a
clean install of just Windows to ensure there was no extras to take up
memory or CPU and/or perhaps only had one licensed copy of Office,
Corel, Photoshop, Lotus etc.

It used to be painful having to create a clean system (I used to have a
spare C: harddrive just with Windows and would swap as required) but
nowadays with VMs it is easier task to test clean XP (sp1, SP2, Sp3),
Vista ... systems
