So that seems to confirm you are indeed trying to listen live to non-UK
URLs, but not succeeding for long, and that you can get On-Demand. Just
for interest did you try the On Demand through iPlayer Extras as well
(which uses a different protocol)?

People much more knowledgeable than I say that for live streaming good
home network connections are required, plus a good DNS service. It
seems Live channels use frequent DNS lookups and these need to work
quite quickly otherwise the live steam gets lost. One user reported
that using ethernet via powerline adaptors didn't work well for him, but
others say they are OK. Another said trying Google's DNS at IP 8.8.8.8
helped.

LMS 7.9 on VortexBox Midi, Xubuntu 14.04, FLACs 16->24 bit,
44.1->192kbps. LMS & Squeeze2upnp to MF M1 CLiC (to MF amp & ESLs) &
Marantz CR603 UPnP renderers. Minimserver (server) & upplay (control
point) to same renderers & to upmpdcli/mpd PC renderers. Squeezelite to
Meridian USB Explorer DAC to speakers/phones. Wireless Xubuntu 14.04
laptop with firefox/upplay or Android 'phone with
Squeeze-Commander/BubbleUPnP controls LMS/Minimserver.   Have a Touch
with EDO, and a spare, but don't use.
