My public IP address is not fixed (but only changes when ADSL link goes
down which is not often) and so not worth starting down that route just
yet.

I think time would be better spent trying to rebuild socketwrapper with
some flexibility for the timer to see if can eliminate or confirm
whether it is the root cause.
