OK, an update from my side. This evening I've had a play and tried a few things. I'm currently listening to the R1 stream via both my Logitech Squeezeblox Classic and Squeezeplay on OS X. I've also installed LMS 7.8.1 on an Ubuntu VM on my server.
Squeezeplay is fine.
