had the same problems here on a MS Windows machine and I think I kind of
solved it.
If the Performance-setting "Maximum Playlist Length" is set to '0' (no
restriction), you can't change the Smart Mix-setting "Keep tracks in
playlist" to any other value than '0'.
So when increasing the first parameter, one can change the second one as
well, which did the trick for me.
I guess that with the most recent version (1.7.2) of the plugin, line
150 in the 'settings.pm' is responsible for this odd behavior, namely:
"$paramRef->{maxOldTracks} = $serverPrefs->get('maxPlaylistLength');"
