Unless I can reproduce the problem it is unlikely I'll be able to solve
it since I have no defintive the source of the problem only ideas about
likely culrpits.  Last time there was a Windows problem which involved
transcoding and socketwrapper - it took a long tim to solve and problem
were partially due to Windows shortcomings and inadequate Windows API
documentation. 

As  a step in either checkgin whether socketwrapper watchdog is the
problem - try the version of socketwrapper in this post

as it has the safety watchdog disabled.
