Hm, probably memory pressure. 
That's a 2nd gen iPod touch. All the 3rd gen ones had 32GB and run iOS
5.
That's the equivalent model to the iPhone 3GS but the 3GS has more RAM,
that might be what's causing this.
I'm not aware of any memory leaks in iPeng 2.0.16 but hey, that's really
an old device for this version give the that at the time Apple had
already discontinued all support for iOS 4 in their development
environment for more than a year....
