Long shot here, but because of other problems with Perl modules on DSM4,
Is there no trace of the issue in server.log or any other log file?
I copied the PropertyConfigurator.pm back to the Cpan dir. I couldn't think of anything else besides the utf8 changes in the Synology.pm. could this conflict with the fix in SQL? https://github.com/Logitech/slimserver/commits/public/7.9/SQL/mysql/schema_11_up.sql
Are you using MySQL for LMS on Synology? It defaults to SQLite - which means that above file wouldn't be used anyway.
This utf8 reference in not inside Synology package, but is in mine.
