By "Simply" you do mean the route that appears to be longer than just
erase and recreate the config file.
1. Unselect Plugin
2. LMS needs to restart for changes to take efffect
3. After restart go into settings of plugin to generate config file,
wait 30 seconds

I tried it and it did not work right away to get the players to
re-appear. I decided then to plug in the Ethernet Adapters that I have
purchased for both the Chromecast Audios. 
This of course also means powering off and on each of the CCA's. 
After the exercise and quitting the Spotify Chromecasting session, both
came back 'online' in LMS after a 'delete and regenerate config file'
session.

This does not mean it will continue to be OK. I will monitor in the
coming days how things are going and report back.

Ps: one of the problems in finding the cause of the problem is the many
variables. The CCA's can be addressed from within Spotify (or other
chromecasting-able apps), from within the Google chromecasting app
itself, from Eventghost, from Ipeng on the Iphone and Squeezecommander
on Android (via LMS server on the Windows PC) and from the browser
(which I guess is the same as from LMS).
