I found this thread when looking for a solution to the constant rebuffering of BBC R4 on my Squeezebox Boom, it plays fine on my Radios. The thread is a bit long, so I'm not sure what the current state of play is, but I started with installing BPAs version 1.5.1 on my LMS 7.9 running on Windows 10 x64 server, but it seemed to make very little difference. I get an initial burst of audio, followed by prolonged periods of rebuffering. The server is an Intel i5 with 8GB RAM so it's not a performance issue, the Boom is hardwired to a Cisco Gigabit switch, so no WiFI problems. Interestingly, I moved to a hardwired connection as the microwave oven in the kitchen was disrupting the WiFi, giving a similar effect. My broadband connection is Virgin Media Business 400/40MBPs cable service with static IP addresses and I live in Galway, Ireland so I use the Listen Live (Non UK servers). So far, so disappointing.
Someone has mentioned that this might be a Windows networking issue, so I setup the LMS docker container created by sndcr on my Ubuntu server as a test. Instant success, once I connected the Boom to the Ubuntu LMS server, BBC R4 played immediately without any interruptions. Sadly, the bitrate is a bit low: File Format: AAC Bitrate: 96kbps CBR (Converted to 705kbps FLAC), I'm not sure if it's possible to improve this. But I can switch between both servers and the rebuffering only occurrs on the Windows one. The strange thing is that my Ubuntu server is actually a Hyper-V VM running under Windows Server 2012 R2, so it is, in effect, still using Windows networking. Does this mean that I would be better off sticking with LMS on Ubuntu, or is there something else I have missed? BPA, if you want me do do any further testing, I'd be happy to oblige.
