Hey Jeff,
Your idea of creating a library of custom tags seem like a really good one.
Not that I would ever do something so lazy, but could I just map a projects
custom tag path as being the same as another applications custom tag folder
path. ie. custom tag path for applicationA = applicationA/customTags and
custom tag path for applicationB = applicationA/customTags?
That will work. As long as you realize that you can only have one working at a
time.
I have that problem with spell checkers all the time. If you misspell a
word and your misspelling forms a legitimate word, (be for being) it really
doesn't help. I think that is one of the biggest problems with voice
recognition software. It will never misspell a word, it will just use the
wrong one. So you really have to proof read what that type of software
produces well. I am still going to take the plunge soon. I have read some
reviews of Viavoice's latest version which are pretty impressive.
Two curiosity questions:
1. Is there a performance hit with cfModule? Or is there another
reason
we don't just use cfmodule for development? It will be a long time before I
purchase coldfusion for myself, so I will be in a hosted environment for
some time to come.
No performance hit. Different way of referencing the same tag. You don't use the cfmodule syntax during development,
because if you did, the provided HomeSite+ tag editors won't work. That is why I have two project directories, one for
development (so I can use the tag libraries) and one for testing/deployment (convereted to cfmodule syntax).
The forthcoming cf_2cfmodule service will eliminate the hassle of doing all
this manually.
We use cfmodule syntax for deployment, and especially in shared hosting environments. CFMX has no ability to bind an
instance of a custom tag to an application, which is why the Churvii developed cf_2cfmodule. If you didn't you would
have exactly the same problem you just experienced, and maybe with somebody else's version of the tag.
2. Would it be possible (if there is a performance problem with
cfmodule)
to build a utility that would rename all the custom tags and all the
references to the tags within the tags as such:
<cf_applicationNameDisplayList>, <cf_applicationNameDisplayColumnInList>
ect. The setup process could use the application name provided. Don't
application names on the same cf Server or server cluster have to be unique?
Would that solve the problem with having custom tags with the same name?
Sure, if you want to do it. Don't think it will be nessary once the new
cf+2cfmodule service is released.

Geez, sometimes you would think that English is not my native language. Or
that there is not a spell checker with my
mail client.
I meant 'Sorry for beING so verbose.'
