I know this has been discussed before, and the conclusion was that L<>
won't handle URIs. But there is no solution for this problem and the
workarounds are not satisfactory.

I know I can extend pod, but then my pods won't be properly processed by
tools implemented following perlpodspec.

Therefore I want to add a new sequence to perlpodspec which will handle
URIs:

U< title | uri >

U: used for hyperlinks (mnemonics: *U*RI)
title: any char with '|' and '>' escaped
uri: full_uri | rel_uri
full_uri: as in RFC spec
rel_uri: ...

the parsing of this new sequence is very easy - just split on '|' while
skipping over escaped '|' and render a proper:

   <a href="$uri">$title</a>

for html renderers and do something like:

   $title ($uri)

for text renderers.

If the idea is accepted it would be great to get it in, before 5.8.0 is
released. I know that this won't help older perls, but it's better than
nothing.

Thanks
