This, of course, isn't that practical for packaging PoDoFo and its tools
in a distro, though. An alternative to static linking is to install the
library in a location that's not part of the normal library search path
and use rpath linking to ensure the tools can find it.

Alternately, of course, you can package it as a normal shared library
and just make sure the description & README.Debian make it clear that a
given version may be removed & replaced in a non-backward-compatible way
at `dist-upgrade' time.
