It's definitely a problem on SourceForge's machine.  I've tried checking
out the CVS tree on each of the test machines, and it fails the same way.
I've reported it a few times over the past month and a half (almost two
now), and SF's admins have closed each one with "We're getting to it;
please stand by."

I hope they'll get around to fixing anonymous CVS after LDAP goes live.
The site status page says LDAP will be here Real Soon Now, so I expect
anonymous CVS to magically work Any Day Now.

I'm not holding my breath, though, and I don't recommend anyone else do.
