Holly,
Triage in an ER is not like on the battle field or
during a disaster. It is used to depict those that warrant attention
immediately and/or those who need it at all. Many come in with
ailments that are treatable at home or through a PCP. The problem is
that there are on any given night in many hospitals throughout the
country groups of minorities and many " illegals " overwhelming the
system with petty ailments and are disrupting the flow of care
deserving to the real emergency cases. We may be morally required to
treat the truely needy emergency cases but not the petty stuff they
abuse the system with. Triage in these cases is really a separation of
" need " vs " abuse ". Go to almost any hospital in any large or
midsized urban area and see the nightmare these individuals
perpetrate. Many with three or four kids and or extended famillies of
up to 10 or twelve. They are boisterous and often very rude and lack
any respect for others or for where they are. We are not obligated to
accept this kind of behavior just because they decide to use ER's for
their lack of insurance, especially when most are " illegals ".
Just like liberals do not comprehend the meaning of "
illegal " they do not comprehend " emergency ". Triage in the ER is a
good thing, not a bad thing .
