Derek was furious, not so much because Rachel was trying to leave but
because her attitude. He hadn't even realized she'd left the house. Nor
had he had long enough to assertain whether or not Nick was any condition to
be looking after them. He'd told her he would go with them, obviously that
wasn't good enough for the doctor. "Rachel, for God's sake please be
reasonable! I will let you go if that's what you really want, but for
Christ's sake stop this and listen!" He'd been fairly quiet since coming
outside, allowing her tirade. Thing were getting completely out of hand.
Then Lani spoke up. He didn't recall asking for her assistance. As much as
he hated to admit it, she did have a point. However, he did not really
appreciate her taking charge. He turned his dark eyes on her, his
displeasure quite clear. Then he took a deep breath. "We all need to calm
down and discuss this RATIONALLY," he agreed firmly. The dutchman ran a
hand through his hair, wondering if there was anyone on the planet more
stubborn than Rachel Corrigan.

Kat had stayed inside the guard house, though she heard every word of what
was being said. This whole thing was scaring her, even though she'd seen
her mother and Derek fight before. She didn't like that part about them not
coming back. She loved it there and she loved all the people. When Rachel
starting yelling for her to come back, she ran to the furthest corner of the
small building and tried to hide. She didn't want to leave.
