Kat:
Kat was silent when she found herself alone with Derek. She was feeling
pretty guilty for lying to him about Miranda, even though her mom hadn't
said too much about that. That was probably most of the problem, if Rachel
had yelled and punished her, she probably would have just been mad at him
for telling Rachel in the first place. But now she just felt horrible, as
she watched him finding a snack for her.
"Derek," Kat said tentatively. He turned and gazed down at her. "I'm...I'm
sorry," she managed to get out, but it was in a very soft voice. "I didn't
want to lie, but...I didn't want you to make Miranda go away."
Derek:
He got down on her level. "Thank you, Kat. That means a lot to me. I know
you wanted your friend to stay, but you both must have permission first."
Kat:
"I know," Kat replied.
Derek:
"Good. We'll just consider the subject closed for now," he told her. The
more he thought about it, the more he thought he should head upstairs. The
way Rachel seemed to take things sometimes he wasn't sure Julia should go
through that alone. And then there was the fact that Rachel's anger with
him my return, he weren't around when she found out. She'd likely get it
into her head that he was keeping things from her and try to leave again.
"Why don't you take your snack and go watch television." This was not
usually a suggestion he made. In fact, he tried not to encourage to watch
televison, he thought she already watched a bit more than she should.
Kat:
"Okay," Kat agreed and scurried off.
Derek:
Derek headed upstairs.
OM:
She thought about it and then held out her hand, just as Patrick quietly
came over to where they were sitting, as if knowing what it was she was
about to do.
Julia's gaze was earnest but gentle as she waited for the other woman to
take her hand. The younger woman would probably give off the same feelings,
at a much lesser level than Derek had been able to sense, that she had
earlier - but that wasn't the only thing she was going to do.
She was going to show Rachel. Hopefully.
Derek;
Derek could hear Julia's soft voice coming through the door. He hesitated a
moment listening and considering whether or not to knock. He chose not to,
opting instead to open the door quietly and slip inside closing it behind
hem. He leaned against the door silently trying to be unobtrusive. He
didn't want to interrupt.
