I listened as he spoke with a smile playing on my lips, if the roles were
reversed how would I be able to leave them? Why had I thought it would be
different for him? "No, it doesn't hurt," I said with a small shake of my
head. "It hurts when I wake up and you're not beside me, or when Kat does
some funny new thing and I want to share it with you...but this? No...this
I'll treasure."
Patrick smiled and nodded sideways at Julia "I am here, Rachel. And when
she can she'll let me be here.. like this."
His tone gentled and he sat on the bed beside her, lowering his tone as he
broached the exact subject that had brought him to her and Kat this time
"Especially now."
He brushed his fingers against her forehead, a very familiar action he
always loved doing when they were discussing things "Our girl is a very
special one. Julia's made it her personal quest to look over her all she
can."
"Rachel, something happened tonight." he added in the same tone, knowing it
was best if what had happened came from him instead of the others "And I'm
not sure exactly what it was..... but our daughter was able to reach out to
us on the other side. Something she's never been able to do before."
"Now," he gently cut in when he knew Rachel would tense up at a possible
danger "just listen to me, to us, okay? We need to talk this out and come
to the best way of handling this. Especially now with the gifts at our
disposal. Are you with me, Rachel?"
He knew one of her first instincts would be to rush to Kat, but right now
they had to have calm and cool heads for what was going on. And they had to
be united in whatever effort was needed to deal with this newest
development.
His gaze, his soul and heart, urged her to listen to him - to them - and not
rush into something that could unwillingly harm the situation more.
