Derek:
Derek stared at the young woman for a moment. Like Alex she had been one of
his students, and as he recalled a very bright one. Though he had sensed
some uniqueness about her, he had never approached her about it. As far as
Alex went, he had hand picked her and Megan Lewis, though possessing similar
qualities was not someone he ever would have seriously considered for the
Legacy. She was bright and hard working, yes, but he always looked for
something more. If he hadn't told her though, who had?
"I can't take your money," he said finally handing the envelope back to her.
The people who worked for the Luna Foundation, at least in the capacity she
was speaking of were all salaried employees. Volunteers came at a much
lower level, in the museums and places that would not compromise the Legacy.
The Luna Foundation was a ligitimate charitable organization, one with all
the records, books, fund raisers and everything else to go with it.
However, it was created as a front for the Legacy and one had to be careful.
He felt sorry for Megan and was willing to help her out. However, he would
certainly be doing extensive background checks. Something was not right
here. "If you need a place to stay, we do have a guest room available you
are welcome to stay in...until you can find a place. And I will be happy to
help you find employment. If you seriously want to work for the Luna
Foundation, I will be happy to see what is available." Perhaps, curating or
book keeping, something where he could keep a close eye on her without
worrying about her getting into classified information.
