The explosions resounded in the den and vampires looked every way to determine where it had come from.   "Bring Derek Rayne back to me!" not-Claire roared to a group of vampires, sending them to go investigate and holding the artifact close to her/him.  Then he/she turned to Alex "Take your sacrifice now!"   He/She grabbed Milo roughly and jerked his neck to the side, his/her long fangs protruding and intent on feasting on him.
