Managing a weak smile Derek shook his head.  "No, it's not as bad as it
looks."  At least he hoped it wasn't, he really was not in the mood to deal
with the hospital.

"Mother," he said taking a step to the side and moving towards his mother.
"I'm perfectly all right," he said seeing the look in his mother's eyes.
"And I'm happy to see you."

She looked at him and doubted that but also knew that he was a grown man and
would, if the past had taught her anything, continue to insist he was fine
and refuse to go to the hospital.  So she did as she always had and kissed
his less sooty/injured cheek and tried to ignore the woman that had
introduced herself as Derek's 'friend', getting a clear impression that that
wasn't the case from her son's perception.

"Why don't you go get tended to and rest?" she suggested "Sloan and I can
help with the others."


Julia sent Alex and Nick up to their room with some ribbing and looked at
the others and then lowering her gaze and biting her bottom lip in an
attempt to keep her emotions at bay.
