Or rather by the time she thought they had reached home. Derek pulled the
car up to the curb in from of a very elegant hotel and stopped. A valet and
bell boy both appeared instantly. Derek turned and looked over at Julia
smiling slightly. He hated to wake her up and consdiered changing plans and
going back, but decided not do that. He could tuck her in upstairs as soon
as they got checked in. He felt better not returning to the house. Not
with the gloom of the council hanging over it. That's why he decided to do
this in the first place.

Reaching over and shaking Julia gently, he spoke her name. "Julia..."

Once she was awake, he escorted her into the hotel and to the front desk.
Leaving the bellman to tend to the luggage he had slipped out of the house
earlier. Derek signed the register and collected the key to one of the
penthouse suites, then he led Julia to the special elevator that only went
to the top floor.

The suite was elegantly decorated in an antibellum theme. There was a
balcony complete with hot tub that over looked the San Francisco bay.
