Kat felt terrible. Her eyes filled iwth tears as her mother spoke. "i just
wanted to find out why that man was taking you away," she protested her
voice shaking slightly. "Then I saw....some lady upset Julia and I wanted
to know what was happening. I didn't....I didn't know I could get Derek in
trouble....." That was true she'd know full well that she could get herself
in trouble, but it never occurred to her that any of the adults would be in
danger and that made her feel really bad.
The child's resolve suddenly came back at her mother's last words though.
"The whole day! But mom it was just an accident....I didn't mean to get
everyone in trouble." This seemed completely unreasonable. Wasn't feeling
awful bad enough without locking her up like some kind of prisoner?
