"And you think you can figure everything out with a phone call. Brilliant."
Julia turned and started back down the stairs and pulling her keys from her
pocket as she went to the closet to pull out her jacket.
She felt something in her other pocket and took out the envelope, looking at
it curiously before putting it in her jacket pocket and continuing "And if
you should need the team's help and they're not feeling too reckless,
useless and laughed at, I'm sure we'll be happy to chip in."
She opened the front door and looked at him for a moment "I love you, but
cutting us off and dismissing our experience is wrong."
And she made her stance more than clear with "And if Amelia came home with a
black eye and said her teacher gave it to her, would you be on the phone
calling and asking the teacher if they really did it or would you want to go
visit the person, look in their eyes, and see that they were responsible or
not?"
"Because you are right about something Derek. Amber was given to us, even
if it was out of the blue, and she's scared. She may be older than a child
but she's still a kid and someone she cares about, in her own mind, has hurt
her. We owe it to any child that makes an abuse claim to check it out IN
person..... not with a phone call."
There was disappointment and hurt in her gaze from his treatment of the
others and herself, but it didn't stop the spark that showed up in her gaze
"And I hope you had a good laugh at our expense but your daughter and I are
going to go out now. You laugh again at a craving I have while carrying her
and you might just be walking around with that rhetorical black eye."
